Scoring on the first play of the first possession, Lake Travis offense took the lead and never looked back. Behind Hudson Card and Garrett Wilson, and an outstanding defensive effort by Matthew Peterman, Hunter Henry and Nick Villareal, the Cavs defeated San Antonio Madison 56-35.
Garrett Wilson (Ohio State Commit) had 12 catches for 165 yards, while Hudson Card (Texas Commit) threw for 206 yards and had 57 yards rushing. Both Card and Wilson had 2 touchdowns each.
Leading 35-14 at the half, Lake Travis pulled away using its ground game. Weston Stephens broke free for a 62-yard touchdown run, and Sean Brown-Nixon added a pair of short scoring runs as the lead grew to 56-14 late in the third quarter. Stephens and Brown-Nixon combined with Card to power the Cavaliers to 222 rushing yards on the day.
Lake Travis will face Weslaco in the regional semifinals at 4 p.m. Dec. 1 in San Antonio’s Alamodome. Tickets will go on sale Tuesday at the Athletic Office on the Lake Travis campus.
