On a chilly night at Cavalier Stadium, the only Lake Travis supporter sweating during a 49-7 victory over Westlake was first-year principal Gordon Butler.
“I hope we call off the dogs,” Butler said with five minutes remaining on the game clock, breaking into a sheepish grin.
Butler had reason to feel anxious. At halftime, he made a promise to body surf through the raucous student section if the Cavaliers scored 50 points on their longtime rivals.
With the clock ticking, the students — some wearing white togas — were in full throttle.
“One more point!… One more point!… One more point!…”
To Lake Travis football Hank Carter’s credit, the Cavaliers (5-1, 2-0 District 25-6A) called off the dogs after his team reached 49. This was a Lake Travis romp from the start. The Cavaliers scored a pair of touchdowns in the game’s first six minutes against the Chaparrals before a sold out Cavalier Stadium .
